POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University football team opened Pioneer Football League play with a 42-7 victory over Presbyterian at Tenney Stadium on Saturday.
 

Summary

• Marist struck first on its opening drive as Sonny Mannino scored a seven-yard rushing touchdown. It was a six-play, 72-yard drive sparked by a 43-yard run by Jayden Taylor on the second play of the drive.
• With 1:41 left in the first quarter, Jared Bernabei blocked a punt that was returned 24 yards by Taylor for a touchdown. Marist took a 14-0 lead to the second quarter.

• Marist extended its lead to 21-0 on a one-yard touchdown ryn by Mannino, which capped an 11-play, 32-yard drive in 4:31.
• Presbyterian got on the scoreboard with a 16-yard touchdown run by quarterback Landon Sharpe.
• Marist extended its lead to 28-7 on a one-yard touchdown pass from Mannino to Isaiah Simmons with 3:49 left in the second quarter. It was a nine-play, 87-yard drive, and the Red Foxes took a 21-point lead to the locker room.
• Marist extended its advantage to 35-7 on its opening drive of the second half on the second Mannino-to-Simmons touchdown connection of the game, this one coming from five yards out. The Red Foxes maintained a 28-point advantage after three quarters.
• Marist closed out the scoring with 1:55 to go on the first collegiate touchdown by Kaden Beard, a five-yard run.

• Marist outgained Presbyterian, 444-232.
• Mannino was 20-for-26 through the air for 198 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for a team-high 63 yards with two rushing touchdowns.
• Nine different Red Foxes caught a pass, led by Simmons with four.
• Reed Shumpert had a team-high 68 yards receiving, including a 50-yard catch that accounted for Marist's longest play of the day.

Notes

• The 35-point margin of victory was Marist's largest since the Red Foxes defeated Stetson by a score of 49-14 on Nov. 7, 2015.
• Marist has now blocked five kicks this season, with four blocked punts and one blocked PAT. The Red Foxes have blocked at least one kick in every game this season.
• Marist has scored five special teams touchdowns in its last 18 games.
• The four touchdowns Mannino accounted for were a season high.
• Mannino has completed at least 64 percent of his passes in three straight games, going 63-for-89 (71 percent) through the air in that span.
• Simmons, who scored 50 touchdowns over the last three seasons at Brockport, had his first two as a Red Fox.
• Marist is now 4-2 all-time against Presbyterian, with a 2-1 record at Tenney Stadium.
