POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Marist women's soccer team defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles 3-0 on Saturday evening inside Tenney Stadium. 

Sophomore forward Ella Bryan gave the Red Foxes an early lead in the 11th minute off of a free kick from junior defender Caroline Liptak. Marist kept their defense strong throughout the rest of the first half.

This momentum stuck with them, as junior forward Margaret Johnson banked her second goal of the season in the 27th minute. Not long after, grad student forward Marissa Foster scored on a breakaway in the 30th minute, also her second of the season. 

Marist outshot the Purple Eagles 14-11, with 11 of them being on goal. They were able to keep most of the play in their offensive zone. 

The Red Foxes kept Niagara off the board in the second half, marking sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Graf's second clean sheet of the week. In the 58th minute, Johnson received a yellow card assessment. 

The win improves Marist's record to 3-6-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference, as Niagara's record falls to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in conference.  

The Red Foxes play next on Saturday, Oct. 3 as they travel to Mount St. Mary's to take on the Mountaineers. The game is set for 12 p.m.
