POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Sophomore safety Chase Hatton of the Marist University football team was named Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday.
 
Hatton spearheaded an outstanding Marist defensive effort in a 42-7 win over Presbyterian on Saturday. He had a team-leading six tackles, half-a-tackle for loss, a pass break-up, and he set the tone with his physicality. In the first quarter, Hatton's tackle on third down one yard short of the line to gain resulted in a punt. Later in the first quarter, he added half-a-tackle for loss on a first down play that resulted in a blocked punt returned for a touchdown three plays later. His pass break-up came on a third down play that forced a punt.
 
As a team, Marist held Presbyterian to just 232 yards of total offense and 21:49 of possession in addition to seven points. All three totals were the lowest a PFL team was held to this week.
 
On the season, Hatton has 21 tackles (15 solo), five pass break-ups, and two-and-a-half tackles for loss.
 
This is the second time in Hatton's career that he has been named PFL Defensive Player of the Week. It was the first PFL award won by a Red Fox this season.
 
Marist (2-2 overall, 1-0 PFL) returns to action on Saturday, when the Red Foxes play a PFL contest at Stetson (1-3, 0-0). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
