MORAGA, California – The Marist University men's soccer team began their West Coast trip, facing Saint Mary's (CA) on Friday evening. The Red Foxes held off the Gaels to earn their first win of the season and advance to 1-1-2 in 2026.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Red Foxes jumped out to an early lead with Ethan Ortiz scoring a goal in the fifth minute, with Caio Cavaletti dishing out an assist to give Marist an early 1-0 lead.
• In the 46th minute, Mani Diop sent one to the back of the net, with Adriano Iannello giving the assist to double the lead for Marist to 2-0.
• The Gaels responded quickly, scoring on a penalty kick in the 47^th minute to cut the lead in half.
• Chris Verheul responded for the Red Foxes with a goal, assisted by Gijs Velings and Cole Caviness to put the Red Foxes up 3-1.
• In the closing minutes, Adrianno Iannello scored a goal of his own to put Marist up 4-1.
• The Red Foxes held the Gaels off to get their first win of the season.

STATS

• Marist finished the night with 8 shots while Saint Mary's finished with 11, and Marist led with 5-2 shots on target.
• Marist earned five corner kicks compared to Saint Mary's four.
• Mani Diop led the team with three shots with one goal.
• Ethan Ortiz, Chris Verheul, and Andrianno Iannello would score one goal apiece.
