DENVER, Colorado – Marist Volleyball returned to action at the Denver Invitational, where they faced SIUE on Friday afternoon. The Red Foxes took the Cougars the distance and defeated them in five sets (24-26, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14) for their first win of the season. Marist moves to 1-4 in 2026.
In set one,
Sara Dasic led the way, tallying six kills and five digs, but it wasn't enough, and the Red Foxes dropped the opening set. Marist dominated in set two, with
Sarah Bumstead slamming five kills,
Caelyn Dumas serving up 12 assists, and
Claudia Kasperski and
Mallory Reck recording three digs each.
SIUE retook the lead in set three, but the Red Foxes didn't seem fazed, tying the match once again in set four. Reck led the team in the set with four kills, while Bumstead added three of her own.
In the decisive fifth set, the Red Foxes were relentless and secured the victory to notch their first win of the season.
Molly Malone and Bumstead led the way with three kills apiece, while Cecilia Potter-Pessoa added three digs on defense.
Top Performances:
- Mallory Reck stayed hot and dominated on both sides of the ball with 15 kills and 10 digs for a total of 15 points.
- Sarah Bumstead recorded 14 kills of her own while adding four blocks to lead the team.
- Molly Malone and Trinity Woods also reached double figures in kills, with Malone slamming 12 and Woods adding 11.
- Caelyn Dumas remained consistent, dishing out a team-high 49 assists for the Red Foxes.
- The Red Foxes close out the weekend tomorrow afternoon when they face the University of Denver at 3 p.m. ET.
