Cameron Gibson is in seventh year on his alma mater’s coaching staff in 2023. He is in his fifth year as special teams coordinator/safeties coach. From 2017-18, he assisted with the Red Foxes' secondary.
Gibson also serves on Marist's IDEA Committee. He is a two-time Marist graduate who earned his Bachelor's degree in 2017 and Master's degree in 2019.
In the 2022 season, Clayborne Fields III was named First Team All-PFL as a safety and Second Team All-PFL as a punt returner. Fields scored two touchdowns in 89 seconds on an interception return and a punt return in a victory at Stetson. The Red Foxes also had a kickoff return for a touchdown by Glenmour Leonard-Osbourne at Morehead State. Leonard-Osbourne was named Second Team All-PFL at the All-Purpose position.
In the 2021 season, Gibson's safeties and special teams units earned recognition at the national level. Safety Clayborne Fields III was named a Third Team Football Championship Subdivision All-American by The Associated Press. Mekhai Johnson was named FCS National Player of the Week after a kickoff return touchdown in a win at Dayton. Johnson went on to become PFL Special Teams Player of the Year. Safety Teddy Wright earned First Team All-PFL and All-ECAC honors.
In 2019, Gibson's tutelage helped Kyle Fleitman earn Second Team All-PFL honors. Both Fleitman and Andrew McElroy earned PFL Defensive Player of the Week honors during the season, as McElroy was named Honorable Mention All-PFL. His special teams units made a positive impact, which resulted in Honorable Mention All-PFL honors for Dwayne Menders as a return specialist and Luke Paladino as a placekicker.
Gibson was a four-year letterwinner at cornerback for the Red Foxes. He was a team captain as a senior, a two-year starter, and a member of Marist’s 2013 Pioneer Football League co-championship team. He was named All-PFL Honorable Mention as a junior and senior.
Gibson was named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll all four years of his career, and was chosen Second Team PFL All-Academic as a senior. Also during his senior year, Gibson was a national semifinalist for the prestigious Campbell Trophy, and was nominated for the Allstate Good Works Team.
In his career, Gibson totaled 119 tackles. He broke up 19 passes and recorded six for interceptions, one of which was returned 78 yards for a touchdown at Davidson on Oct. 19, 2013.
Gibson is a native of Waycross, Georgia.
