Dorian Long is in his fifth season on John Dunne’s staff in the 2022-23 season.
Long will be in his second season an assistant coach in 2022-23. After working as the program's Director of Basketball Operations from 2018-21, he was promoted to Assistant Coach in the summer of 2021.
In the 2020-21 season, Long took on additional responsibilities within the program due to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Red Foxes went 12-9 overall and 10-8 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play in the 2020-21 season. It was the Red Foxes' best record in 13 years. Off the floor, Long became an advisor to Marist's Black Student Athlete Alliance and joined Marist's IDEA Committee.
Long had a hand in all areas of the program during his first three years as Director of Basketball Operations. His responsibilities included coordinating travel, monitoring all budget and equipment operations, on-campus recruiting, analyzing video and statistics, and overseeing all program logistics. In his first season, Long's work with logistics included the first international tournament in program history, as the Red Foxes won the Samson Bracket of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic in Northern Ireland.
Prior to joining Marist Basketball, Long was elevated to Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator on former NBA player Doug Overton’s staff at Lincoln University. In two years, Long recruited and developed five CIAA All-Rookie honorees, two All-Conference players, and CIAA Defensive player of the year Deaquan Williams. During the 2017-18 season, Long oversaw Lincoln’s defensive strategies which helped them finish in the nation's top eight in field goal percentage defense and three-point field goal percentage defense. Long also served as the program's academic liaison increasing the team’s GPA during his time.
Prior to his time at Lincoln, Long spent two seasons as Director of Basketball Operations at James Madison University. In his first season with the Dukes, Long helped JMU claim a share of the CAA regular-season crown for the first time since the 1999-00 season, tallying a 19-14 record that included a 12-6 mark in conference play. The Dukes then amassed 21 victories the following year.
Before his stint with JMU, Long was as an assistant coach at Washington College. There he mentored and developed three All-Centennial Conference players and was elevated to Associate Head Coach prior to being hired at James Madison.
Long started his college coaching career at his alma mater, Neumann University where he served as an assistant from 2008-12. He was responsible for recruiting, scouting, player development and academic progress while organizing and directing all team and individual summer camp operations. He successfully recruited and developed five All-Conference Players and four 1,000-point scorers during his time there.
Long served as Head Coach for the Whiz Basketball Club (a small AAU program out of Philadelphia) for five years and assistant coach at his alma mater, Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, for three years. He also completed an internship at Saint Joseph's University, working closely with both the men's and women's basketball programs. In addition, he volunteered in the Yeadon Athletic Association as an assistant coach for grade-school athletes. Long has also directed and coached at numerous camps/clinics throughout the Atlantic region over his 15-year career.
Long is a 2010 graduate from Neumann University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.
