Ethan Fox joined the Marist coaching staff in August 2013.
During the 2016 season, Fox coached the defense that ranked 14th in the nation in both man down defense (.691) and scoring defense (8.56). In the MAAC, the Red Foxes had the lowest goals against average (8.36) and highest save percentage (.581) as a team and competed in the conference championship game for the third straight season.
Fox led a stingy Marist defense in 2015 to help lead the Red Foxes to their first NCAA tournament victory and first MAAC title in a decade. The Marist defense led the MAAC by winning 52.8 percent of its faceoffs, finished second in penalty killing percentage (71.8 percent) and ground balls per game (29.11), and third in clearing percentage (85.9 percent). The Red Foxes' man down defense ended the season ranked 11th in the nation (71.1 percent).
In 2014, Fox helped lead Marist to its first MAAC Championship game appearance since 2005. The Red Foxes led both the MAAC and the nation in clearing percentage, successfully clearing 92.2 percent of the time. Marist finished third in the MAAC for ground balls per game (30.27) and man-down defense (60.8 percent).
Fox is no stranger to Wilkinson and the Red Foxes, having just graduated in May 2013 after four very successful seasons in a Marist uniform. He appeared in 58 games in his career, finishing with 105 ground balls and caused 57 opponents’ turnovers. A team captain as a senior, Fox earned a spot on the All-MAAC First Team after being selected to the Second Team his junior season. He led a stingy Marist defense in 2013, often drawing the challenge of guarding the opponent’s top offensive player. He responded by leading the team with 19 caused turnovers while scooping up 38 ground balls, tying for the second on the team. Off the field, Fox was a three-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team.
What they are saying…
“Ethan has a tremendous lacrosse intelligence and understanding of the game. He is also as fierce of a competitor that I have encountered in my 10 years of Division I lacrosse as player and coach. He has all of the qualities of a great coach and has a very bright future in the coaching industry.” - Marist head coach Keegan Wilkinson
"The Marist College men's lacrosse program will greatly benefit with the addition of Ethan Fox as an assistant coach. Ethan's experience as a player and a coach in various platforms is profound. His ‘student of the game’ approach, interaction with players, and forward thinking has separated him from his peers. With Ethan joining the staff at Marist College, the future is certainly bright." - Paul Carcaterra, ESPN Lacrosse Analyst and Commentator
