One of the most dominant programs in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference history, Marist women’s basketball has transformed under the leadership of Brian Giorgis. The Red Foxes’ all-time leader in wins, Giorgis’ record stands at 443-164, and he’s led the Red Foxes to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, five NCAA Tournament victories and a Sweet 16 appearance. Having wrapped up his 19th season in 2020-21, he has been named MAAC Coach of the Year eight times - five times outright (2003-04, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13). He’s shared the award three times (2004-05, 2005-06, 2020-21). He earned his 400th career win in Marist's 89-75 triumph over Boston University on November 8, 2019. He is believed to be the first head coach in NCAA Division I history to record 400 wins at the collegiate (all in DI) and high school level.11448

  • Amassed five NCAA Tournament victories in a span of six years, including victories over Ohio State (2007), Middle Tennessee State (2007), DePaul (2010), Iowa State (2011), Georgia (2012)

Team USA
  • Team USA came home with a Gold Medal after going 6-0 in the 2013 World University Games, in Kazan, Russia
  • The U.S. defeated Mali (120-32), the Czech Republic (101-61) and Brazil (105-75) in pool play before defeating Sweden (103-72) in the quarterfinals and Australia (79-78) in the semifinals. The Red, White and Blue then beat host Russia 90-71 in the gold medal game

  • Captured his 300th career win with an 82-53 rout of Monmouth on Feb. 28, 2014
  • Defeated #20/19 Oklahoma on Dec. 21, 2013, 76-69, the second time Giorgis defeated a ranked opponent in his career, the first time came in 2010 over #21 Nebraska
  • A 2010 inductee into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame
  • Led teams to three perfect MAAC seasons (2007-08, 2010-11, 2012-13); 274-60 all-time in MAAC games
  • Posted 12 consecutive 20-win seasons from 2003-04 to 2014-15, eight straight 25-win seasons from 2006-07 to 2013-14
  • Then-MAAC record 35-game winning streak against conference opponents (including postseason) between the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons. Also had a 34-game MAAC winning streak between the 2009-2010 and 2011-12 seasons.
  • Program was selected to host 2015 First Round WNIT contest against Temple at McCann Arena. Giorgis made his second WNIT Postseason appearance in 2018 against St. John's.
  • Eclipsed 100 points for the first time on Dec. 18, 2013 vs. Northeastern (103-66). Scored 100 points again on Feb. 14, 2014 vs. Quinnipiac (100-81) for the first time against a MAAC opponent
  • Ten winning streaks of 10 or more games, including two separate streaks in 2011-12. Three times those streaks have extended to 20 or more consecutive wins, including 27 in a row in 2010-11, which was the longest in the nation at the time
  • 40-7 record in the MAAC Tournament, including 26 consecutive wins at one point. The Red Foxes were 0-5 in the conference championship prior to Giorgis’ arrival.
  • Marist reached a ranking of 17 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll in the 2011-12 season. The ranking was the highest in program history

Giorgis Biography - Lourdes Update
  • As the head girls’ basketball coach at Lourdes, Giorgis posted an astounding record of 451-44 in his 19 seasons, good for a winning percentage of .911.
  • Won nine state championships with the Warriors. In his last two years, his teams posted a combined mark of 56-2 and earned the top ranking in the Madison Square Garden Tri-State Area Poll each year.
  • Giorgis has earned two WBCA Region One Coach of the Year honors and two Coach of the Year awards from the New York State Coaches Association.
  • Led Lourdes to the league title all 19 of his seasons there and won 15 Section I crowns, with the last 11 coming consecutively.
  • He is the only coach in state history to take teams in four different sports to the state Final Four, as he also guided the baseball, softball, and volleyball teams there.
  • His softball squad captured the state crown in 1990. Giorgis also coached golf and tennis at Lourdes and served as athletic director for 10 years.
