Erin Doughty enters her second season as the head coach of the women's basketball team for the 2024-25 season. This season is her 23rd of association with the Marist women’s basketball program, which previously includes time as a student-athlete, student assistant coach, assistant coach, associate head coach, and head coach.
In her first season at the helm, Doughty earned six wins and coached senior Zaria Shazer to All-MAAC status for the second consecutive season.
In Doughty’s five-year tenure as associate head coach, she helped guide the Red Foxes to a MAAC championship in 2021 as the program navigated challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the 2020-21 season, Marist was 18-4 with a 13-3 MAAC record, securing the program's 13th MAAC regular season championship. As the No. 1 seed, the Red Foxes then won their 11th MAAC Championship in program history, which includes a 69-30 triumph over No. 3 Saint Peter's that ranks as the largest margin of victory and fewest points allowed in a MAAC Championship final. Marist earned a 15-seed in the NCAA Tournament, playing Louisville in the first round.
In 2019-20, the Red Foxes went 26-4, giving the Red Foxes their ninth season with at least 25 victories and a share of its 12th MAAC regular season championship. Marist climbed as high as fifth in the College Insider Women's Mid-Major Top 25, and had three All-MAAC selections in a season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018-19, the program went 23-11 and reached the MAAC Championship final.
As an assistant, Doughty helped the program achieve new heights. In 2007, Marist became the first MAAC basketball program – men’s or women’s – to reach the Sweet 16. In this time, Marist amassed five NCAA tournament victories and 10 NCAA tournament appearances.
Along with the NCAA accomplishments, Doughty help guide the Red Foxes to a MAAC record 35-game winning streak against conference opponents (including postseason) between the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons. The Red Foxes also had a 34-game MAAC winning streak between the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons. Both streaks are the only ones in MAAC history to reach the 30-game plateau.
Doughty helped bring the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and the women's basketball program together. In April 2010, the team adopted Nina Triplo from Stone Ridge, N.Y., welcoming her to the Red Fox family. The foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for those affected by pediatric brain tumors.
From 2002-05, Doughty was a walk-on guard who appeared in 12 games, made two MAAC All-Academic teams and was one of the Red Foxes' most popular players. An accurate long-distance shooter, Doughty hit the first two shots she attempted in her collegiate career, both of which were three-pointers. During her senior season, she joined the coaching staff as an assistant, and in her first season with the squad, Marist finished with 23 victories, the highest win total in school history at the time.
Doughty attended Holy Cross High School in Connecticut, where she played four years of varsity volleyball and basketball. In basketball, Doughty became the school's all-time leader in three-pointers made and helped the squad earn a berth in the state championship game in 2002.
Doughty was named to the Hudson Valley's Top Forty Under 40 as announced by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2024.
Doughty earned her Bachelor's degree from Marist in 2006 and her Master's in 2008 in Psychology. Erin and her husband, Mike, reside in Poughkeepsie with their two children, Chase and Fallon.
