NEW YORK – Senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis of the Marist men's basketball team was named Third Team All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday.
Lewis concluded his Marist career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,119 career points. He ranked 10th in the nation in scoring (20.6 points per game) and 13th in steals (2.31 steals per game) this season. He was named Second Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for the second straight year.
Following the season, Lewis was invited to the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational. There, he averaged 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 assists in his three games. He shot an.548 (17-for-31) from the field, .500 (4-for-8) from three-point range and .667 (12-for-18) from the free-throw line. He also averaged just 1.3 turnovers per game, and averaged 22.0 minutes per game as he came off the bench in all three contests.
Of the 64 players in the tournament, Lewis ranked second in steals, fourth in scoring, sixth in three-point percentage, seventh in field-goal percentage, ninth in three-pointers made and 11th in blocked shots while ranking 49th in minutes played.
Lewis is the first Red Fox to be honored by the Met Writers Association since 2009, when Ryan Schneider earned Second Team honors.
