Marist Athletics to Honor 1990 ACFC Championship Team

October 10, 2000 -- Marist College will present rings to the members of the 1990 Atlantic Coast Football Conference Championship (ACFC) team tomorrow at halftime of the Red Fox football game versus MAAC rival Iona, it was announced by the Athletic Department this afternoon.

"I am very happy that we are able to recognize, on homecoming, the accomplishments of the 1990 team on this the 10-year anniversary of its championship," said Marist Director of Athletics Tim Murray. "As we continue to build a lasting tradition it is important that we remember and recognize those who set the mark of excellence for which we strive."

Marist President Dr. Dennis J. Murray will present each member of the 1990 team with a championship ring commemorating the season in a ceremony at halftime of the annual homecoming game.

In 1990, the Red Fox football team captured a program best 7-2-1 overall record to mark the first winning season in program history. That year, the team also captured a perfect 5-0 league mark en route to capturing the Atlantic Collegiate Football Conference Championship. Additionally that year, 11 individual and team records were broken, six of which still stand. Expected to be in attendance are Marist's all-time rushing leader Don D'Aiuto and all-time passing leader Dan O'Donnell.

"That was a milestone year for Marist Football," said Red Fox Head Coach Jim Parady. "Every year, as we enter a season, it is important that we challenge ourselves to excel and the precedents set by the 1990 team are one that we look to achieve and expand upon."

Marist, currently 2-2 on the year, will host MAAC rival Iona tomorrow with the kick-off slated for 1:00 p.m. All the action of Red Fox football can be heard via radio on 1450 WKIP or via the Marist College Athletic Web Site, www.GoRedFoxes.com.
