Final Stats
Hamilton, NY---The Marist College men's (8-0) and women's (6-2) swimming and diving teams wrapped up the competition at the Colgate Invitational earlier this evening. Also competing were Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents Loyola and Niagara. The men went unbeaten on the two-day event defeating Colgate 203-133, Loyola 237-98, and Niagara 260-57. The women fell to Colgate 205-129, but were victorious over Loyola and Niagara, 202-130 and 259-61 respectively.
In the men's events Dave Dobbins (Greece, NY) had a pair of wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.06) and 100-yard freestyle (47.09), while Nick Lakin (Fairport, NY) captured the victory in the 100-yard backstroke (53.12). Other winners for the Red Foxes were Trevor Charles (Middletown, Conn) who touched first in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.86), and Mike Guman (Stratford, Conn) who earned the top score on the 3-meter dive (432.60). Concluding the meet, the team of Ricky Kapusta (Stamford, Conn), Joe Murin (Queensbury, NY), Matt Castillo (Jamaica, NY) and Dobbins outdistanced their competitors, winning the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:06.65).
In the women's competition, Jennifer Gelsomino (Harrison, NY) was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.22) and finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.52). Other strong finishes for the Red Foxes came from Sarah McKinney (Schaumburg, IL) who was second overall in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.63).
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, January 19th, with the women taking on Siena College at the McCann Center Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.. Both the men's and women's teams will then face Fordham University on Tuesday, January 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. in their last home meet of the season.
