Poughkeepsie, NY (September 19, 2001)---The Marist College men's tennis team won it's season
opener, defeating Monmouth University, 7-0, this afternoon.
The Red Foxes (1-0) swept the Hawks, winning all six sets in the singles competition, and
remaining victorious in all three doubles matches. Pat Hofer won the number one singles
match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory of Monmouth's Chad Long. Martin Aldorsson defeated his opponent
6-0, 6-1, while David Slater earned the win at number three singles 6-1,6-3. Alex Ilchenko
continued the streak winning 6-0, 6-0, and Victor Sapezhnikov won easily for Marist, 6-1, 6-0.
The sixth singles match was captured by Nick Bass, 6-2, 6-3.
The doubles teams of Aldorsson and Slater, Hofer and Sapezhnikov, and Bass and Mike Nassif
swept all three of their contests.
The Red Foxes return to the courts at the Brown University Invitational, in Providence, RI,
on September 28-29.
