Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's basketball team dropped Loyola (MD) 64-46 behind Nina Vecchio's (Holmdel, NJ) career high 23 points this evening at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes went ahead 16-9 with 11:07 remaining in the first half when Loyola went on a 13-4 run to take a 22-20 lead at the intermission. The Red Foxes shot .533 percent and outscored the Greyhounds 44-24 in the second half behind runs of 15-6 and 14-2 that sealed the victory. Vecchio scored 17 points after halftime and nailed 6-8 form beyond the arc as Marist improved to 9-8 on the season and 5-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
The Red Foxes also received a double-double effort from sophomore Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) with 12 points and 12 rebounds. As a team Marist out rebounded Loyola 37-35.
The Greyhounds were led by Jennifer Mitchell with 13 points and Shontrese Smith with 10. Katie Netherton chipped in 11 boards for Loyola (MD).
Marist shot .439 percent from the field for the game while limiting the Greyhounds to .333 percent.
The Red Foxes will return to action this Tuesday, January 22nd at 5:00 PM when they travel to Riverdale, NY to face Manhattan. Marist will return home to host Rider at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 27th.
