Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College volleyball team rallied from a two sets to none deficit to defeat the Loyola Greyhounds 3-2 (25-30, 29-31, 30-18, 30-22, 15-11) at the McCann Center on Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes have won three consecutive matches, and four in a row at the McCann Center as they improve to 9-15 on the season, and 3-2 in the MAAC.
Loyola (13-11, 3-1) captured the first two games and it appeared that they were going to coast to an easy victory, but the Red Foxes mounted an amazing comeback. Trailing two games to none, Marist won the third and fourth games in convincing fashion to force a fifth game.
In the fifth game, Marist was trailing 6-0, but countered with seven points of their own to take the lead. The Red Foxes never looked back as they held off the Greyhounds for the win.
Aline dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led Marist with 21 kills and 13 digs on the afternoon. Michelle Turley (Stevensville, MI) also notched a double-double with 13 kills and 26 digs. Christina Brozek (Fair Lawn, NJ) and Courtney Pusko (Cheshire, CT) had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) played well, recording 53 assists and 10 digs.
Mary Hamsher led Loyola with 27 kills and 22 assists. Becky Corb added 16 kills and 25 digs in the loss for the Greyhounds.
The Red Foxes start a three-game road trip when they travel to West Point, NY to face Army on Tuesday, October 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
