Edison, NJ-The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2002 New York Lottery MAAC All-Academic Team for women's soccer Thursday afternoon. The Red Foxes led all schools with 11 student-athletes named. To be considered for this honor, student-athletes must complete two semesters at their institutions, be a significant starter or reserve, and hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Leading the way for Marist was 2002 All-MAAC First Team selection Jenny Shanks (Sound Beach, NY). Shanks, a senior Mathematics/Biology major, started in all 19 games for the Red Foxes. She helped Marist offensively by producing 13 shots on net, while defensively contributing to the teams five shutouts this season. She is among the top ten all-time in goals (5), assists (7), and total points (17).
Other key selections were senior Mellanie Nai (Suffield, Conn.), a Psychology major, recorded five shutouts this season, while making 127 saves for the Red Foxes. Also, senior Jenny Greenbaum (Northport, NY), a Psychology/Special Education major, led the team in points with nine, recording three goals and three assists for the season.
Rounding out the team were sophomore Laura Clark (Syracuse, NY), junior Laura Fil (Wappingers Falls, NY), sophomore Courtney Moore (Harwihton, Conn.), senior Kelly Naughton (Harrisville, RI), junior Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY), junior Stacy Ryan (Berlin, Conn.), junior Tara Savidge (New Hyde Park, NY), and senior Katie Wilt (Columbia, Conn.).
