Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's basketball team defeated the University of Hartford Hawks 60-58 tonight at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes are now 4-2 overall, 1-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
Marist's almost let a seven-point lead slip in the last 30 seconds of the game when Hartford's Liz Stich hit a three pointer, and then hitting two free throws making the score 58-60 with twelve seconds remaining.
Junior forward Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) recorded her ninth career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) led the team in scoring with 13 points, while going 3-3 from the free throw line. Kerry Sullivan (Crompond, NY) and Kristin Keller (Millbrook, NY) both scored in double digits with ten each.
Guard, Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ) hit two from behind the arc and is now 5-9 in the last two games.
The Red Foxes shot a season-high 42.9 percent from the field, while hitting 67 percent of their free throws.
Marist returns to action Friday, December 20th, when they travel to Columbia to take on the Lions in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Levien Gymnasium.
