Springfield, Mass. - The Marist College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Hartford 21-10 today at Springfield College. The Red Foxes trailed 4-2 after the first quarter, then a 7-1 second quarter by the Hawks gave them an 11-3 advantage at the half. Hartford then outscored Marist 6-2 in the third, before a 5-3 fourth by the Red Foxes ended the scoring.
Leading scorers for the Red Foxes were sophomore Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) with four goals and senior Paul Donohue (Fair Lawn, NJ) who totaled two goals and two assists. Sophomore Josh Ben-Eliyahu (E. Setauket, NY) also scored two goals for Marist in the first quarter and added an assist on a Donohue goal in the fourth.
Michael Gillis scored four goals and added two assists for Hartford, which also received three goals and two assists from Tyler Francey.
Junior Brian Schumeyer (Farmingdale, NY) had 12 saves in goal for Marist, while Rorke Greene made nine saves for Hartford.
The Hawks held a 54-43 advantage in groundballs and outshot Marist 37-33. Hartford also won 23 of the 32 faceoffs.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 PM when they play host to Canisius on Leonidoff Field.
