Poughkeepsie, NY---The Marist College women's lacrosse team (2-4) was defeated this afternoon, 11-5, in their home opener against Sacred Heart University (3-4) on Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes trailed the Pioneers 5-3 at the half, and then were outscored by Sacred Heart 6-2 in the second, as they secured the win.
In the Red Fox scoring effort, Liz Hanley (Simsbury, Conn.), Lauren Serge (Albany, NY), Alison Reilley (Syracuse, NY), Molly Hanley (Simsbury, Conn.), and Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) each tallied one goal. Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NY) had two assists, one apiece, to the Serge and Petersen goals.
The Pioneers were led in scoring by Natalie Smith, Mary Romano, and Michelle Bruckner, who each registered two goals.
Sacred Heart led in shots on goal, 39- 35, and in saves, 23-22.
The Red Foxes return to action on Wednesday, April 3rd, when they travel to Wagner in Staten Island, NY. The start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
