Poughkeepsie, NY---The Marist College men's tennis team defeated Fairfield University, 7-0, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest this afternoon, at the Dutchess Racquet Club. The Red Foxes improved to 14-7 overall and 7-0 in MAAC play.
In singles play Patrick Hofer (Falkenweg, Austria) defeated Colin Torrance, at number one singles, 6-7 (7-5), 6-1, 6-2. At number two singles Michael Sowter (Perth, Australia) claimed the win over Kevin Nyaradi, 6-2, 6-0. At number three singles David Slater (St. Alban's, UK) was victorious against Nick Casolaro, 6-0, 6-1. Martin Aldorsson (Kungsbacka, SWE) had the win at number four singles against Michael Theile, 6-3, 6-1. Viktor Sapezhnikov (Brooklyn, NY) won number five singles in three sets over Peter Rudden, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Patrick Dahnert (Scottsdale, AZ) captured the win at number six singles against Michael Pignataro, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action the duo of Aldorsson and Hofer defeated Torrance and Joe Fennell, at number one doubles, 8-3. The number two doubles team of Slater and Sowter won easily against Nyaradi and Casolaro, 8-1. The number three doubles twosome of Sapezhnikov and Nick Bass (C'sted, St. Croix) dropped Theile and Rudden, 8-2.
The Red Foxes return to the courts on Saturday, April 13th, as they travel to Riverdale, NY, for a conference match against Manhattan College. The action is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
