Final Stats
New York, NY---Freshman Michael Curran (Shelton, CT) won the javelin throw, and
junior Christopher McCloskey (Hopewell Junction, NY) broke the school record in
the 1,500-meter run to lead the Marist College men's track team at the
Columbia University Invitational, held Saturday at Baker Field in Manhattan.
Curran placed first in the javelin with a best throw of 59.44 meters (198
feet, 2 inches), just 1 feet, 4 inches less than the school record he set at
the Monmouth Invitational in March. Teammate Taylor Twist (Smithfield, RI)
was 16th in the event in 44.97 meters (149 feet, 10 inches).
McCloskey placed ninth in the 1,500 in 3:55.99, eclipsing the school record
held by Benny Hefferon (3:57.12, in 1997). Freshman Adam Pakiela
(Ridgefield, CT) also bettered a school record, in the 400 dash (51.41
seconds).
Marist runners had a strong showing in the 5,000-meter run. Senior
co-captain Michael Nehr (West Babylon, NY) placed fourth in 15:10.78, just
hours after running the 1,500 in 4:01.06. Junior Jamal Padgett (Syracuse,
NY) ran a personal-best time of 15:33.27 and placed ninth. Sophomore Kirk
Dornton (Syracuse, NY) was next in 15:38.12, followed closely by freshman
Geoff Decker (Delmar, NY), 15:39.25. Sophomore Charlie Williams (Commack,
NY) sliced more than 20 seconds off his previous best with a 17th-place time
of 16:27.19.
The 400-meter relay team of Pakiela, Eli Bisnett-Cobb, David Taylor and
Eric Stelz ran a season-best time of 44.43 seconds, good for 11th place.
The men's track team returns to action on Saturday, April 20 at the St.
John's University Invitational in Queens.
