Flushing Meadows, NY---The Marist College men's tennis team defeated Saint Peter's College in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) semifinal, 4-1, earlier this evening.
The Red Foxes earned the doubles point, sweeping all three doubles matches in the contest. At number one doubles, the team of Patrick Hofer (Villach, Austria) and Martin Aldorsson (Kungsbacka, SWE) defeated Alex Taunean and Frank Strangeman, 9-8, 2-5. At number two doubles Michael Sowter (Perth, Australia) and David Slater (St. Alban's, UK) won over Slobodan Djukic and Patrick Mazurkiewicz, 8-3. At number three doubles the duo of Viktor Sapezhnikov (Brooklyn, NY) and Nick Bass (C'sted, St. Croix) beat Pablo Maristany and Alex Yampolskiy, 5-3.
In singles play Sowter had the win at number two singles over Djukic, 6-3, 6-3. At number four singles Aldorsson claimed the win against Mazurkiewicz, 6-1, 7-6, 8-6. At number six singles Patrick Dahnert (Scottsdale, AZ) won over Yampolskiy, 6-3, 6-0.
The Red Foxes will play Niagara University tomorrow in the championship match, set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
