Staten Island, NY - The Marist College men's lacrosse team closed out their 2002 season with an 11-4 victory at Wagner this afternoon in Staten Island, NY.
The Red Foxes lead the game from start to finish after scoring four goals in the first quarter, two coming from freshman Pat Van Horne (Liverpool, NY) who totaled three goals in the contest.
Marist went ahead 5-0 in the second quarter before a goal by the Seahawks at 11:46 made the score 5-1. The Red Foxes then took a 6-2 advantage into the intermission.
Senior Paul Donohue (Fair Lawn, NJ), scored two goals and assisted on a score by sophomore Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) as Marist outscored Wagner 3-0 in the third quarter to take a 9-2 advantage.
The Seahawks trimmed the deficit to 9-4 with goals at 8:54 and 5:04 in the fourth before two more Marist goals provided the final outcome.
Donohue and Diele each had three goals and three assists and sophomore Jay Nahama (Hampton, NJ) dished out three assists for Marist, which held a huge advantage in ground balls 66-31 and out shot the Seawolves 40-16. Eddie Noll scored two goals to lead Wagner.
Junior goalie Ben Gildea (Shoreham, NY) made eleven saves for the Red Foxes, as did his counterpart Phil Mackenzie.
The Red Foxes ended their inaugural season under head coach Edgar Glascott with a 4-9 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Lacrosse League.
