Stony Brook, NY - The Marist College Men's Lacrosse team was outlasted by host Stony Brook 9-7 today at Seawolves Field. The Red Foxes fell to 2-5 on the year, while the win improved the Seawolves to 6-3.
Stony Brook jumped out to a 3-0 lead, before a goal by freshman Pat Van Horne (Liverpool, NY) in the first quarter and back to back scores from senior Paul Donohue (Fair Lawn, NJ) in the second quarter tied the game at three.
After lighting halted the game for 35 minutes to start the second half, the Seawolves went ahead to stay with a goals at 3:27 and 1:39 in the third. Kevin Pall added to the Stony Brook lead scoring three of his five second half goals to take an 8-3 lead to start the fourth quarter.
With the Red Foxes trailing 9-4 Donohue added two more goals, before sophomore Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) found the net with 1:48 remaining to cut the margin to 9-7. Stony Brook then won the ensuing face-off and controlled possession for the remainder of the game to secure the win. Donohue finished the day with four goals and two assists to lead the Red Foxes.
Despite being out shot 57-26, Marist stayed in the game behind the play of junior goalie Brian Schumeyer (Farmingdale, NY) who made 24 saves on the day. Steve Armsworthy totaled 13 saves for the Seawolves.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Saturday, April 6th at 1:00 PM when the travel to Riverdale, NY for a MAAC contest against Manhattan. The team will return to Leonidoff Filed on Sunday, April 14th at 1:00 PM against Mount Saint Mary's.
