Riverdale, NY - The men's lacrosse team of Marist College was defeated 17-4 at the hands of host Manhattan this afternoon at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. The Red Foxes fell to 2-6 on the season and 1-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while the Jaspers improved their record to 5-5 overall and 3-0 in the MAAC.
Manhattan lead 3-0 after the first quarter and extend the margin to 5-0 before sophomore Josh Ben-Eliyahu (East Stauket, NY) put Marist on the board with a goal at 9:15 in the second quarter off an assist from freshman Pat Van Horne (Liverpool, NY). The Red Foxes also received a goal from sophomore Jay Nahama (Hampton, NJ) in the second, but went inot the locker room trailing 8-2.
The third quarter provided more of the same as Manhattan outscored the Red Foxes 5-1 with the lone Mairst goal coming from senior Chris LaRose (Merrick, NY) who was assisted by Nahama. Junior Pat Scully (Longmeadow, MA) added a goal for Marist in the fourth off an assist from Ben-Eliyahu.
Eugene Tanner was the high point man for the Jaspers recording four goals and five assists. Mike Kelly also added three goals and an assist in the win.
Marist held a 41-30 advantage in groundballs, but were outshot 38-23 by the Jaspers.
Juniors Brian Schumeyer (Farmingdale, NY) and Ben Gildea (Shorehamn, NY) combined for nine saves in goal for Marist, while their counterparts for Manhattan, James Amandola and Peter Sertzoglou made nine saves as well.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Wednesday, April 10th at Siena. Game time is set for 3:30 PM. The next home game will be on Sunday, April 14th at 1:00 PM when Mount Saint Mary's comes to Leonidoff Filed.
