Bronx, NY - The Marist College men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a split in dual meet action tonight at Fordham. The men improved to 9-0 with a 138-89 victory, while the women fell to 6-4 on the season, losing 132-102.

The men's team was led by Matthew Castillo (Jamaica, NY), who touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 1:42.16, while also winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.54). Henry Puretz (Poughkeepsie, NY) was also a double-winner, taking the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.43) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:06.20). Jeffrey Paul (Meadowbrook, PA) won the 50-yard freestyle (21.91), with Ricky Kapusta (Stamford, CT) finishing a close second (21.93). Kapusta also captured first place in the 100-yard freestyle (48.47). Joseph Pilewski (Sparta, NJ) emerged victorious in the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.11), as did Trevor Charles (Middletown, CT) in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.19). The 400-yard medley relay team of Charles, Robert Dunn (Pittsford, NY), Kapusta, and Paul won with a time of 3:34.61.

In the diving competitions, Michael Guman (Stratford, CT) won the 1-meter dive (261.30), while Dan Cerasale (Meridan, CT) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 1-meter dive (241.65) and 3-meter dive (244.12).

Missy Gifford (Glens Falls, NY) led the women with first place finishes in the 1-meter dive (254.17) and 3-meter dive (227.92). Courtney Milde (Succasunna, NJ) also performed well, winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.11). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Emily Heslin (Allendale, NJ), Lauren Neitzel (Saratoga Springs, NY), Kristina Mulholland (Manassas, VA), and Jennifer Gelsomino (Harrison, NY) won with a time of 3:51.66. Karen Finnerty (Midland Park, NJ) did well in the distance races, finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.59) and third in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:11.38).

The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, January 25th, when they host Rhode Island for a dual meet beginning at 2:00 p.m.
