Marist Men's and Women's Swimming Complete Second Day Of Competition At ECAC Championships

Pittsburgh, PA - The Marist College men's and women's swim team competed in the second day of the ECAC Championships held on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The men find themselves in third with 261 points, only 31.5 points behind second place Seton Hall, and 4.5 points ahead of fourth place Towson University going into the final day of competition, while the women sit in 19th place with 45 points.

In the men's 200-yard medley relay the team of Trevor Charles (Middletown, Conn.), Matthew Castillo (Jamaica, NY), Raymond Ferranti (Melville, NY), and Jeffrey Paul (Meadowbrook, PA), placed third in a time of 1:34.99. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Ferranti, Charles, Ricky Kapusta (Stamford, Conn.), and Castillo, finished fourth in a time of 6:56.34.

Individually, the men were led by Castillo who earned a silver medal in the 400-yard individual medley touching in a time of 4:02.80. In the 100-yard butterfly, Kapusta placed sixth, touching in a time of 51.78. Ferranti and Joseph Pilewski (Sparta, NJ) finished 13th and 15th, respectively in the consolation final. In the 100 backstroke, Charles finished sixth with a time of 51.91. Robert Dunn (Pittsford, NY) placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke.

On the women's side, diver Missy Gifford (Glens Falls, NY), placed seventh in the 1-meter diving with a final score of 230.30. The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Emily Heslin (Allendale, NJ), Courtney Milde (Succasunna, NJ), Jennifer Meyer (Fairport, NY), and Sarah McKinney (Schaumburg, IL) finished 13th with a time of 1:53.24.

The men and women return to action Sunday, March 2nd at the ECAC Championship in Pittsburgh, PA for the final day of competition, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
