Men's and Women's Swimming And Diving Finish Competition At ECAC Championships

Pittsburgh, PA - The Marist College men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition today at the University of Pittsburgh. The men's team finished in third place with 393 points, behind champion UMBC (564) and Seton Hall (419.50), while the women placed 19th.

Matthew Castillo (Jamaica, NY) finished second in the 100 freestyle (46.14), while Ricky Kapusta (Stamford, CT) and Jeffrey Paul (Meadowbrook, PA) touched the wall third and fifth, respectively. The Red Foxes had two swimmers finish in the top ten in the 200 backstroke, with Trevor Charles (Middletown, CT) placing fifth (1:52.22), and Joseph Murin (Queensbury, NY) coming in 10th (1:54.25).

Joseph Pilewski (Sparta, NJ) finished 11th in the 200 butterfly, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Raymond Ferranti (Melville, NY), Paul, Kapusta, and Castillo placed second with a time of 3:04.56. Michael Guman (Stratford, CT) did well on the boards, placing fourth in the 1-meter dive (249.15).

Karen Finnerty (Midland Park, NJ) led the women with a ninth place finish in the 1650 freestyle (17:43.90). Finnerty also swam on the 400 freestyle relay team that finished 14th with a time of 3:40.80, which included Jennifer Meyer (Fairport, NY), Karen Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY), and Sarah McKinney (Schaumburg, IL).

The ECAC Championships was the final meet of the season for both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
