Men's Lacrosse Falls To Canisius, 11-4

Buffalo, NY - The men's lacrosse was defeated by the Canisius Golden Griffins, 11-4, in MAAC Lacrosse League action on Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. The Red Foxes fall to 0-7 on the season, with a 0-2 record in MAAC play, while Canisius improves to 1-5, with a 1-2 record in the conference.

The Griffs led 2-1 after the first quarter of play on goals by Chris Tocin and Jonathan Duggan, with Billy Duerr (Manasquan, NJ) tallying the lone goal for the Red Foxes.

Canisius added two more goals in the second, with one of them coming with a man-up by R.J. Ramgopal to increase the lead to 4-1. Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) added a man-up goal of his own with 10 seconds to play in the second to cut the lead to two at halftime.

Both teams scored twice in the third, with Andrew Walsh (Liverpool, NY) and Josh Ben-Eliyahu (East Setauket, NY) tallying goals. Justin Casano (Franklin Square, NY) assisted on the goal by Ben-Eliyahu at 7:52 in the third quarter.

Canisius pulled away in the fourth quarter, as they outscored Marist 5-0 to win their first game of the season.

The Griffs held a 40-28 advantage in shots, as well as recording 42 ground balls to Marist's total of 23.

Steve Graviano (Oceanside, NY) recorded 14 saves on the afternoon for the Red Foxes.

Marist returns to action next Saturday, March 29th, for their home opener at Leonidoff Field against MAAC opponent VMI. The game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
