Buffalo, NY - The Marist College men's tennis team won their fourth match in a row, defeating MAAC opponent Canisius, 7-0, in Buffalo on Saturday. Head coach Tim Smith earned his 100th career victory at Marist, as the Red Foxes improve to 16-2, and are 6-0 in MAAC play.
In singles action, Patrick Hofer (Villach, Austria) defeated Kurt Felgemacher, 6-1, 6-4, while Chris Hagen (Oslo, Norway) won easily over Greg Kingston, 6-2, 6-2. David Slater (St. Alban's, England) cruised to an easy victory over Billy Kaputa, 6-0, 6-1. Michael Nassif (Ames, IA) also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 over Phillip Eichner. Viktor Sapezhnikov (Brooklyn, NY) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Robert Fahey, while Alain Boletta (Abington, PA) rounded out the sweep in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Kyle Hejmowski.
Marist swept the doubles matches as well, with Hofer and Martin Aldorsson (Kungsbacka, Sweden) shutting out Felgemacher and Kaputa, 8-0. Hagen and Santucci won 8-2 over Kingston and Fahey, while Slater and Sapezhnikov defeated Hejmowski and Eichner, 8-1.
The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, April 13th, when they travel to Lewiston, NY to take on MAAC foe Niagara at 10:00 a.m.
