Lewiston, NY - The Marist College men's tennis team defeated Niagara, 6-1, in Lewiston on Sunday. The Red Foxes improve to 17-2, and 7-0 in the MAAC, while Niagara was handed its first conference loss, falling to 8-1 in the MAAC.
In singles, Patrick Hofer (Villach, Austria) won a close match over Jon Bozanich, 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(5). Chris Hagen (Oslo, Norway) fell to Erick Garcia, 6-4, 6-3, while David Slater (St. Alban's, England) won a hard-fought match over Mike Kelly, 7-6(16), 6-4. Slater overcame a 4-0 deficit in the first set. Mark Santucci (Chepachet, RI) defeated Jason Pope in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, as did Martin Aldorsson (Kungsbacka, Sweden) over Jason Ramos, 6-1, 6-4. Michael Nassif (Ames, IA) closed out the day in singles with a 7-6(4), 7-5 win over Kris Hrisovulos.
Hofer and Aldorsson won in doubles over Kelly and Bozanovich, 8-2.
Hagen and Santucci also won, 8-2, over Garcia and Ramos, while Slater and Viktor Sapezhnikov (Brooklyn, NY) won by the same score over Pope and Hrisovulos.
The Red Foxes return to action on Tuesday, April 15th, when they host MAAC foe St. Peter's for a 3:30 p.m. match.
