Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 13-9 win over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Siena on Senior Night at Leonidoff Field. The win snapped a four-game losing streak as the Red Foxes finish with a record of 3-12, and 3-5 in MAAC play. The Saints fall to 1-13, and are 1-7 in the conference.
Siena scored first when Matt Walsh found the back of the net at the 11:31 mark in the first quarter. The Red Foxes answered with goals by Pat Scully (Longmeadow, MA) and Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) to take a 2-1 lead with 7:36 in the opening period.
The Saints then tied the game at 6:46 in the first on a goal by Walsh, but that was as close as they would get as Marist scored five unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead with 6:57 remaining in the first half as they pulled away for the win.
Josh Ben-Eliyahu (East Setuaket, NY) led Marist with a career-high five goals, while Diele added three goals and one assist. Billy Duerr (Manasquan, NJ) also played well, with two goals and two assists, while Scully scored a goal and had two assists in his final game as a Red Fox. Jay Nahama (Hampton, NJ) dished out two assists in the win.
Walsh paced Siena with three goals and two assists, while Peter Green also scored three goals.
Bobby Gross (Huntington, NY) had 13 saves for Marist, and John Bamford collected 12 for the Saints.
