West Point, NY - The Marist College men's tennis team was defeated by the Army Black Knights 6-1 in West Point on Thursday. The Red Foxes fall to 12-2 on the season, as they had an eight-match winning streak snapped.
Army won all three doubles matches over Marist, as Arnie Albornoz and Rafael Albornoz defeated Patrick Hofer (Villach, Austria) and Martin Aldorsson (Kungsbacka, Sweden), 8-3. Chris Hagen (Oslo, Norway) and Mark Santucci (Chepachet, RI) fell 8-2 to John Sabia and Carl Fisher, while Michael Nassif (Ames, IA) and Viktor Sapezhnikov (Brooklyn, NY) lost 8-3 to Jarrett Skrobarcek and Steven Srivastava.
In singles action, Hofer fell to Arnie Albornoz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Hagen dropped his match to Sabia 6-0, 6-1, while David Slater (St. Alban's, England) lost to Srivastava 6-4, 6-1. Santucci played a hard-fought match with Skrobarcek, but came up short, falling 6-4, 4-6, 16-14. Aldorsson fell 7-5, 6-2 to Fisher, and Nassif picked up the lone singles win with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over David Collins.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, April 5th, when they take on MAAC opponent Loyola for a 1:00 p.m. match in Poughkeepsie.
