Women's Soccer Falls to Fordham 3-2

Poughkeepsie, NY--The Marist College women's soccer team is still searching for their first win of the season, after dropping a tough battle against Fordham 3-2 at home this evening.

Senior forward Jacqui Aines opened the Fordham attack at 18:50 scoring from the left side off a pass from midfielder Caitlin Gansfuss. Freshman forward Sarah Hopkins increased the lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute on an unassisted goal from eight yards in.

The Red Foxes bounced back by scoring two unanswered goals. With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, junior Courtney Moore netted her second goal of the season off a cross from sophomore Ashley Johnson.

Freshman Justine Caccamo tied the game at the 57:04 mark after corner kick by sophomore forward Kathleen Murray. Moore was also credited with an assist. The goal was Caccamo's first of the season and first collegiate goal.

The Rams pulled ahead 3-2 in the 75th minute when freshman Natasha Kayulu netted the rebound from junior Beth Purcell's shot that hit the right post.

Fordham outshot Marist 13-9. Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Cibelli made two saves for Marist in the first half. Senior Meredith Fabian started the second half in goal for the Red Foxes, making two saves, included a diving stop late in the period that saved a Ram goal.

The Red Foxes will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Providence College on Saturday, September 20 to take on the Friars.
