Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Loyola, 64-48, this evening at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes improve to 4-9 overall and 2-2 in MAAC play, while the Greyhounds fall to 0-13 and 0-4 in league play.
Trailing 33-23 the Red Foxes scored the first six points of the second period and dominated the half, outscoring the visitor 41-15 to run away for the victory. Marist held Loyola to just 6-30 shooting in the second period, including 0-13 from behind the three-point line. The Red Foxes were 15-29 in the half and 2-4 from behind the line. Marist also out rebounded the Greyhounds 25-15 in the second half, winning the battle of the boards 44-34.
Brandon Ellerbee scored nine of his game-high 15 points in the second half, to go along with three assists. Two other Red Foxes reached double-figures as Will McClurkin had 13 points and Carl Hood added 11 points, nine in the second half. Rookie Jared Jordan continued to play well, recording a career-best seven rebounds, as well as dishing out a game-high six assists and scoring two points. Chris Handy had nine rebounds, a team-high and four points. Pierre Monagan had nine points and six boards, while Kerry Parks scored eight and had three rebounds.
The 12 points of Charlie Bell and the 11 points of Bobby Bossman led Loyola, who also received a 10-rebound effort from Bernard Allen. The Greyhounds finished the game 6-30 from three-point range and just 19-60, 31.7 percent, from the field for the game.
Marist has won three of its last four games.
The game was the first of three consecutive home games for the Red Foxes, who will host Fairfield on Tuesday, January 13th at 7:30 pm.
