Bronx, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team lost its dual meet opener to host Fordham tonight by a 137-104 margin. Freshman Jamie Falco provided the highlight of the meet for the Red Foxes by setting the school record in the 100 backstroke.
Falco set the record in the first leg of the 400 medley relay, in which Marist placed second (4:02.58). Her time of 59.89 seconds broke the old mark, set by Jennifer Meyer in 2002, by .05 seconds. The other three legs were swum by sophomore Lauren Malski, freshman Whitney Butler and sophomore Kimberly Koehler. Fordham edged out the Red Foxes by just .05 seconds.
Senior Jennifer Gelsomino won the 200 butterfly for the Red Foxes in a time of 2:16.20 while junior Meghan Duffy won the 1-meter diving event for the second consecutive meet with a 229.8 mark. She also took third on the 3-meter platform in 242.4.
Marist made it a clean sweep in the diving events as freshman Melissa Mangona and sophomore Anna Sanner took second and third, respectively, on the 1-meter while Sanner was second and Mangona third on the 3-meter.
The Red Foxes are back in action Saturday, Nov. 6 for their home opener against MAAC foe Rider. The meet starts at 1 p.m. at the McCann Center Natatorium.
