New Rochelle, N.Y. - Sophomore Lauren Malski broke her own school record in the 200 breaststroke to lead the Red Foxes (4-1, 4-0 MAAC) past host Iona Tuesday night by a 124-116 margin. Malski's time, 2:20.59, was just 2.32 seconds off the NCAA "B" qualifying standard. Freshman Jamie Falco and senior Jennifer Gelsomino were double winners for Marist.
Malski's time, an unofficial MAAC record, was .07 better than the one she swam at the 2004 MAAC Championships. Official MAAC records can only be set at MAAC Championships.
Falco won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:58.16 and the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:10.66. Gelsomino's winning times were 2:15.54 for the 200 individual medley and 2:13.84 for the 200 butterfly. Freshman Whitney Butler was second in the latter event.
Junior Meghan Duffy swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the fifth consecutive meet. Freshman Melissa Mangona and sophomore Anna Sanner took second and third, respectively, on both platforms.
The Red Foxes, ranked 12th in the latest CollegeSwimming.com Division I Mid-Major poll, are back in action December 3-4 at Loyola with Colgate and Niagara.
