Weston Joins Marist's Water Polo Program

Dec. 8, 2004

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Marist head women's water polo coach Andrew Silva announced that the Red Foxes have signed Kari Weston to a national letter of intent late Wednesday afternoon. Weston is a native of Chino Hills, California and attended Ayala High School. Weston is the first of what Silva expects to be deep and talented recruiting classes. With five seniors graduating, Silva is looking to bring in athletes that will make immediate contributions to the program.

"I decided to come to Marist to be part of the Division I water polo program," said Weston. "I felt very comfortable with the campus setting and was impressed with the quality of the athletic facilities.

Weston, a four-year varsity starter for Ayala, was the Sierra League MVP during her junior season after being selected to the first team as a sophomore. She also captured first team CIF-SS (California Interscholastic Federation, Southern Section) Division III honors last season and was a member of the CHAWP water polo club team that took the bronze medal in the 2004 Junior Olympics. Weston has been a member of the club since the sixth grade. The two-year captain plans to major in Athletic Training at Marist.

"Kari will bring years of high level high school and club water polo experience to the Marist water polo program. I expect that she will make an immediate contribution to the team, both offensively and on the defensive end of the pool."

The Red Foxes begin their season Saturday, February 12 at the Princeton Invitational.
