LEXINGTON, Virginia – Marist Water Polo team clinched the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season championship and are playoff bound, after defeating La Salle and LIU on Satuday afternoon.
After clinching the regular-season MAAC Championship, the Red Foxes head into their final match of the regular season with an overall record of 24-4 and an undefeated conference record of 8-0.
Kendell De Beer led the Red Fox offense in the first match, scoring four goals in a 9-3 win over La Salle University. Four other Red Foxes scored a goal in the match.
De Beer also led the Red Foxes with four goals in the second match.
Paige Naegle and
Anita Radaelli followed up with three goals apiece and Marist defeated LIU 18-8.
- In the first quarter, Marist fell behind early letting up one goal while getting shutout.
- The Red Foxes quickly caught fire in the second quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to go up 5-1.
- After halftime La Salle would do their best to keep it close by scoring two goals, but the Red Foxes would do the same to keep a four-goal lead, 7-3.
- In the fourth quarter Marist kept working, scoring two goals while shutting out La Salle to take a 9-3 win.
- Marist got off to a quick start, scoring five goals in the first quarter while only letting in one to LIU.
- In the second quarter, Marist kept their momentum and the Red Foxes took a 10-2 lead going into halftime.
- After the half the Sharks started to pick up some momentum but the Red Foxes shut it down outscoring them 4-3 in the third quarter.
- Marist finished strong, scoring four more goals in the fourth quarter to win the match by a final score of 18-8.
- The Red Foxes return home for their final match of the regular season against Princeton University.
