Men's Hoops Falls To Siena, 71-65

Feb. 21, 2004

Box Score

ALBANY, N.Y. - Justin Miller's fade away jumper with two second on the shot clock broke a 65-65 tie and gave Siena the lead for good in a 71-65 victory over Marist before 7,270 fans at Albany's Pepsi Arena Saturday night. Michael Haddix scored 22 points and grabbed 14 boards, pacing a dominant Saints frontline that out-rebounded the Red Foxes 40-26 and held a commanding 30-10 edge in points in the paint.

Marist (6-19/4-12) went to the locker room with a 33-29 lead thanks to a three-quarter court buzzer-beater by freshman Jared Jordan. Jordan was one of four Marist players in double-figures with a team-high 14 points.

The Saints started the second half with a 17-3 run to take a 10-point advantage with 14:32 remaining.

While Siena (10-15/7-9) was getting the job done in the paint, Marist rallied behind its outside marksmanship. The Red Foxes made good on 10-of their first-13 three-pointers and shot 60% (12-20) from long range on the night.

Brandon Ellerbee led the three-point onslaught, connecting on four of his seven attempts.

Marist used a 30-8 run to answer Siena's second half start, taking what appeared to be a insurmountable 63-54 lead on a Carl Hood jumper with 5:56 remaining.

Siena scored the next nine points however, to tie the game at 63-63 on a Haddix layup. Mike Beers fourth three-pointer of the night keyed the spurt. Beers finished with 14 points and Miller had 10 to round out Siena's double figure scorers.

Following Miller's back-breaking buzzer-beater, Antoine Jordan converted all eight of his attempts from the free throw line in the final 2:07 to seal the deal.

Jordan ended with eight points and 10 rebounds.
