Poughkeepsie, NY -Marist College head women's soccer coach Sheri Huckleberry announced the signing of her first four players to National Letters of Intent. The four student-athletes are the first members of the class of 2008 and are the first recruiting class signed by Huckleberry.
Kristina Anderson (Rockland, NY), Melanie Ondrejik (Manalapan, NJ), Liz Herber (Scottsdale, AZ) and Marisa McBride (Trumbull, CT) will comprise the 2004 freshman class.
"This talented recruiting class will not only expand upon our depth as a team, but brings athleticism, speed, vision and competitiveness," Huckleberry said. "The coaching staff looks forward to great things from these players in the fall."
Anderson, a four-year starter at North Rockland High School, helped lead her team to back-to-back New York State Class AA Championships and a ranking of second in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas Poll. An All-County, All-League, All-Section and Second Team All-State selection, the midfielder also has international soccer experience, participating in the Nike Select Cup in Italy with her club team last summer.
A four-year varsity starter at St. John Vianney, Ondrejik will join the Red Foxes as a defender. During her career, Ondrejik helped the team to a 69-14-1 record while earning the 2003 High School Heisman Trophy as well as First Team All-Division and All-Monmouth County Honors. She also was named Second Team All-Shore and All State-Parochial. As a freshman, she helped St. John Vianney to a state title and participated in the World Scholar Athlete Games.
Herber will join the Red Foxes in between the posts in the fall. Herber, who started 70 consecutive games at Desert Mountain High School, posted a record of 52-17-2, including 31 career shutouts. Herber helped the Wolves capture two Regional 5A Soccer Championships and a top-10 state ranking each year. She holds several Desert Mountain season records including shutouts and saves and career records in shutouts, saves, and save percentage. The keeper also played on '86 Xtreme Heat club team, the Arizona State Cup runner-up last season. Herber also excels off the field as she was named the 2003 NSCAA West Region Scholar Athlete of the Year.
McBride, a four-year starter at St. Joseph High School, is a three-time All-State and All-FCICA First Team selection. In 2002, the forward was named to the All-New England First Team.
