Fairfield, Conn. – Behind a resilient defensive effort and a standout performance in goal, the Marist women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw on the road against Fairfield Wednesday night at Lessing Field.
The Red Foxes (4-5-3 overall, 3-0-3 MAAC) extended their unbeaten streak in conference play to six matches, and seven total, holding off a Fairfield side (8-1-2, 3-0-2 MAAC) that entered the evening near the top of the standings.
Fairfield generated much of the pressure throughout the match, outshooting Marist 30-7 and holding a 12-1 edge in corner kicks. But the Red Foxes' back line and senior goalkeeper
Maddy Catalanotti stood tall. Catalanotti finished with six saves and repeatedly turned away dangerous chances, including key stops late in both halves to preserve the clean sheet.
Offensively, Marist created opportunities of its own.
Gabby Tirado registered a team-high three shots, all on target, forcing Fairfield keeper Katie Wright into action.
Jillian Garcia and
Delia Hahn also tested Wright, who collected five saves for the Stags.
The Red Foxes return to action on Wednesday, October 8, when they play host to Quinnipiac in another MAAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
