LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Marist scored four goals in the final quarter to capture a 9-5 victory over Siena College in MAAC men's lacrosse action this afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y. With the loss the Saints drop to 0-7 (0-5 MAAC) on the season and the Red Foxes improve to 5-4 (4-0 MAAC) overall.
The Saints jumped out to a 3-2 advantage after the first period with goals from Dan Wolpert, Matt Walsh and Eric Morrissey. The Red Foxes battled back in the second with goals from Tim Iuculano and Keith Detelj to bring the game to a 4-4 tie at the half.
Nearly four minutes went by in the third, before Keith Detelj notched his third goal of the game to give the Red Foxes a 5-4 advantage. The Saints answered in the fourth quarter with a goal from Greg Powell. But a late fourth quarter surge by the Marist proved too much for the Saints. Marist scored four unanswered goals to close out the game with a 9-5 victory.
Eric Morrissey led the Saints in scoring with two goals. Keith Detelj had four goals for the Red Foxes, including the game-winner. Brian Diele tallied a pair of goals for the Red Foxes, and added an assist, while
Keeper David Jalette made 12 saves for the Saints, while Marist goaltender Steve Gravino also had 12.
Marist is back in action on Tuesday, when it travels to Providence for a MAAC Lacrosse League games.
