Poughkeepsie, NY- Marist College senior Alyson Fiorillo was tabbed to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo League All-First Team this evening as announced at the tournament banquet held on the campus of Marist College. Fiorillo, along with three teammates, was also named to the 2004 New York Lottery All-Academic Team.
Fiorillo is currently third on the team in goals this season with 24 and first on the team in assists with 12, good for a total 36 points. She has also recorded 31 steals on the season. The driver was named the MAAC Player of the Week on April 6th after helping the Red Foxes to a four-game winning streak, scoring nine goals and dishing out five assists. The Pottsville, PA native is Marist's all-time leading scorer with 151 goals in her career. This is the second postseason honor for Fiorillo as she was named to the 2003 All-MAAC Second Team. This is also her second consecutive All-Academic honor.
Joining Fiorillo on the All-Academic team were Joelle Evanousky, Susan Russo and Kerin Sovern. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Villanova University led all schools with seven members named to the team.
The Red Foxes, who fell to top-seed Wagner in the first round of the MAAC Water Polo League Tournament this afternoon, are back in action tomorrow as they face three-seeded Villanova at noon in the consolation round at Marist College.
