Brachold, Towler Lead Marist To 17-1 Pounding of Albany

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College baseball team recorded 24 hits no its way to a 17-1 pasting of non-conference visitor Albany this afternoon on the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes improve to 20-24 while the Great Danes fall to 30-8.

Keith Brachold and Bryan Towler were the offensive story for the Red Fxoes, as they both finished the contest 5-6. Brachold had a pair of doubles, drove in four runs and had four runs scored of his own. Towler doubled in his first at-bat, singles in his second and fourth, and tripled in his third at-bat. He hit a ball to the warning track in left field in the seventh, just missing out on the cycle and closed with a single in the eighth. Tolwer finished with three RBI and two runs scored. Justin LePore4 was 4-5 for the Red Foxes with a double, five RBI and a run scored. Every Marist starter had at least one base hit, with eight players recording multi-hit games.

Lucas Robinson was the beneficiary of the offense, as he earned the win to improve to 3-3 on the year. He went eight innings, scattering four hits and allowing just an unearned run. He fanned five in the outing and walked just two. Peter Fuller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth in relief, fanning one.

Marist scored in the first when Towler doubled in Travis Musolf. The Red Foxes added four in the second inning, with four players driving in a run. The Red Foxes then added three in the fourth and fifth innings, two in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Albany scored its run in the top of the fifth, after an error by Musolf. Four different players had base hits for the Great Danes. Nick Murphy took the loss, falling to 5-3, as he allowed five runs on eight hits in 2.0 innings as the starter. Kyle Thomas was next, allowing three runs on five hits, in 1.2, and was followed by Scott McGovern, who allowed three runs on five hits in 1.1 innings. Marist tagged Nick Ragone for six runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings, and Ragone walked two, the only free passes issued by Albany pitching. Ryan Suillivan faced one batter in the eighth and struck him out.

Marist returns to action on Saturday, May 8th, as they return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, traveling to Niagara University. Marist is 12-6 in the MAAC, in second place, while the Purple Eagles are in third at 10-6.
