New Rochelle, NY - Three players in double-figures spurred the Marist women's basketball team to a 62-49 victory over Iona tonight at the Mulcahy Center. Marist junior Fifi Camara (Conakry, Guinea) led the Foxes with her fourth double-double of the season on 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Alisa Kresge (Holmdel, NJ) was just shy of a triple double, pacing Marist with 10 rebounds, eight points and seven assists.

The Gaels jumped out to an early 8-4 lead on four points from Regan Pettijohn; but Marist answered quickly on seven straight points by Camara. Kristen Vilardi (Fishkill, NY) put Marist ahead 10-8 with a three and a Kresge three-point play put Marist up 15-11 at the 13:29 mark. The teams traded buckets before back-to-back Tamika Simmons threes and a Lauren Huber jumper gave Iona the 22-17 advantage with under nine minutes in the half. Marist went on a 15-6 run to close out the half in which six different players scored, capped by a Kresge trey. The Foxes took a 32-38 lead into the break.

Marist continued to put on the offensive pressure in the second, with a Vilardi jumper and a Kristin Keller (Poughkeepsie, NY) three giving the Foxes the 37-28 advantage two minutes into the half. Keller put Marist up by 12 just minutes later off a jumper to give the Foxes a 44-32 lead at 14:24. Several defensive stops and a Tiara Headen bucket at the 9:42 mark pulled Iona with seven at 45-38, but Marist had an answer for everything the Gaels threw up.

Back-to-back threes from two Marist forwards in Kristin Hein (Manasquan, NJ) and Stephanie Youdath (Mentor, OH) took the wind out of the Gaels sails for good as the Red Foxes went up 54-42 at 5:10. Iona sent to the Red Foxes to the free-throw line four times in the closing minutes and a Headen jumper ended scoring for the Gaels at 1:08.

Marist senior Megan Vetter (Havertown, PA) tallied eight of her 10 points in the second half to lead the Foxes while also chipping in six assists and a game-high four steals. Keller had 11 points and five boards for Marist while Youdath closed the night with five points, one block and one steal. Marist went to the line 24 times to Iona's seven and outrebounded the Gaels 40-38.

Tamika Simmons registered a double-double for Iona with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Toni Horvatch chipped in 10 points and six assists for the Gaels in the losing effort.

Marist returns to action this weekend when it hosts MAAC foe Loyola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night before taking on Rider at the McCann Center on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
