Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to UMBC 126-106

Baltimore, Md. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team fell today to host Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) by a score of 126-106. The Red Foxes (8-2) got a pair of diving wins from junior Meghan Duffy and freshman Melissa Mangona as well as a victory in the 1000 freestyle from senior co-captain Emily Heslin.

Marist made its mark in today's meet on the diving board, as Duffy took the 3-meter event with a score of 240.15 while Mangona won the 1-meter competition (238.79). Duffy was second with a score of 225.83.

Heslin earned the only swimming win for the Red Foxes in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:48.80. In the 50 freestyle, sophomores Kimberly Koehler and Victoria Fresolone touched second and third, respectively, in times of 26.06 and 26.40 seconds. Freshman Whitney Butler placed second in the 200 butterfly in 2:19.06 while sophomore Lauren Malski did likewise in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.21).

Marist relay squads placed second in both the 400 medley and 400 freestyle. The medley corps of freshman Jamie Falco, Malski, Butler and Koehler finished in 4:03.57, less than two seconds behind the winning Retrievers entry, while sophomore Jessica Paul, Fresolone, junior Karen Fleckenstein and Heslin combined to finish the 400 freestyle race in 3:49.08, just three-tenths of a second behind UMBC (7-3).

The Red Foxes return to the pool for their final dual meet of the season before the MAAC Championships as they travel to Seton Hall on Saturday, Feb. 5. The meet will start at 1 p.m.
