Marist Women Win Yet Another MAAC Title

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Marist women's swimming and diving team won its seventh MAAC title in 10 years with 731 points, ahead of Rider (689) and host Loyola (625) Saturday evening in Baltimore.

Associate Head Coach Meghan Duffy was named Diver of the Year. Freshman Jamie Falco also earned MAAC Swimmer of the Year honors.

Falco won the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:06.80, setting a league and school record in the event. Karen Fleckenstein was second with a time of 2:08.31, while Ashley Papuga was sixth in 2:11.19. Jess Paul also came in 13th with a time of 2:15.88.

Duffy won the 3 meter board with a MAAC record 437.10 points, ahead of teammate Melissa Mangona with a total of 386.75. Anna Sanner finished sixth with 319.45 points.

Lauren Malski made the NCAA "B" qualifying cut in the 200 breaststroke by winning the race in 2:17.29, setting a MAAC and school record in the process. Cindy Spiecker finished seventh (2:33.00) in the event.

The 400 Free Relay team of Kim Koehler, Victoria Fresolone, Emily Heslin and Falco also got in on the act as they set yet another conference mark with a time of 3:33.39, which is also a Marist mark.

Koehler also finished third in the 100 free with a time of 54.08, while Fresolone took fifth in 54.39.

Heslin took second in the 1650 free with a time of 17:32.40, while Jamie Cannata took eighth in 18.26.58.

The Red Foxes also took ninth, 10th and 11th in the 200 butterfly with Whitney Butler finishing ninth (2:14.86), Lindsay Marotto in 10th (2:16.20) and Jen Gelsomino in 11th (2:16.46).

The Red Foxes will compete at the ECAC Championships next weekend in Pittsburgh, Pa.
