BALTIMORE, Md.- Larry Van Wagner's men's swimming/diving squad won its ninth MAAC title in 10 years with 852 points Saturday evening in Baltimore, on the campus of Loyola College. The Red Foxes' closest challenger was Rider, who finished with 792 points. The Broncs won the 2004 MAAC title, which is the only season the Red Foxes did not won the league championship. Host Loyola finished third with 552 points.
Matt Castillo won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:05.15, while Jablonski finished third in 2:07.66.
The Red Foxes took second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:05.85. The squad included Castillo, Pat Collins, Jablonski and Jeff Paul.
Dan Garaffa finished second for Marist in the 200 backstroke (1:51.69), while Brandon Youse (4th, 1:54.83), Dave Schnitzer (7th, 1:57.35) and Kevin Bobenchik (9th, 1:55.55) also competed in the event.
Paul took third in the 100 free (46.99), while Patrick Collins (7th, 47.49) and Will Shearouse (11th, 48.66) also posted quality performances.
Kevin Connors led the way for Marist in the 200 butterfly, finishing with a mark of 1:53.56 in third, while Joseph Pilewski took fourth with a time of 1:57.24.
Ralph Rienzo was Marist's top finisher in the 1650 free, with a time of 16:23.23 in third, while Nick Chevalier was right behind in fourth with a time of 16:26.37. Wesley Gardner was sixth (16:57.84), while John O'Fallon was 13th (17.39.99).
In the diving competition, Jesus Santos (357.40) and Devon O'Nalty (339.10) took third and fourth, respectively, while John Luboja was sixth with a total of 318.00.
Marist will compete at the ECAC Championships next weekend in Pittsburgh, Pa.
